So, as you already know, I buy vintage for curated vintage shops. I source the majority of my clothing, accessories, and objects year-round in Italy, and I also do some vintage hunting when I visit California. Over the years, Pieceology Vintage, a client and friend, has continuously brought my clothing to life. The garments hail from different eras and origins, and I’m always in awe of how owner and curator April transforms them from disconnected pieces into a cohesive collection. At the moment, I can’t get enough of Cozy Creek, her latest lookbook, so I have decided to share some of my favorite looks and some of April’s insight and inspiration behind the making of this vintage masterpiece!
What is your favorite thing about styling vintage?
April: “For me specifically, I love the challenge of creatively styling my pieces together. For photoshoots, my options are limited to just the inventory I have currently in my shop so figuring out how to make them work together in a cohesive way is really fun.”
I love how this 1970s sweater from the California countryside, wool skirt from northern Italy and off-white silk top form the Cinque Terre come together to make this crisp warm look.
These Cinque Terre summer dresses left, 1960s, right 1990s, mash-up so well with this northern Italian statement sleeve top and Italian style- icon Laura Biagiotti off-white raincoat.
These two dresses stay true to their colorful origins, for they were both sourced form a summer street market just outside the Cinque Terre.
Anything specific you loved about styling the Cozy Creek lookbook?
April: “Oh yes! I loved adding in accessories for this shoot to make it feel extra cozy. We used big blankets, knit hats and fluffy scarves. I also wanted to make sure to keep the styling true to what fall and winter weather is like in Texas. It doesn’t always get very cold here so I really enjoyed incorporating warm and cold weather pieces together.”
This northern Italian street market number got a full button makeover from me and total up-style form April with those booties and that beret! The dress never hit the shelves because it went home with this beautiful model Angelica.
The kiss of sunshine on this pairing of cozy northern Italian skirt and light Cinque Tere cotton top is amazing!
You just have to spin in this free-flowing floral 1970s La Perla latticed dress with pockets! La Perla is well known in Itlay for their beautiful lingerie and select clothing as well.
This shearling coat came from a thrift shop in Santa Rosa, California, which was just devastated by wildfires, but I checked and luckily the shop is still standing! please visit and help rebuild Santa Rosa!
This off-the-shoulder 70s top is oh-so-good with this Cinque Terre midweight teal pleated skirt.
Who doesn’t need a 70s suede coat to throw on anywhere and everywhere! It is one of Pieceology’s 5 winter wardrobe essentials. Read full article here!
How long do you collect pieces/plan for lookbooks?
April: “I usually plan lookbooks a month to a month and a half out so I can come up with my concept, schedule models, a photographer, a location and a date/time to shoot that will work for everyone. In addition to that, I want to make sure I have the right inventory for the concept. Planning a month in advance usually allows me plenty of time to do all of this!”
That’s a wrap with these Italian 1980s essential Americanino Sunnies, Austrian crop top and floral Penny Black skirt!
